Question by Dawn: Spending 1-2k on building a powerful computer for Gaming and photos, what’s new in the computer world?
Every 4 or 5 years, we upgrade our current machines, but we are finally going to just share a computer that will handle graphic designing/ photography/ and gaming.

My husband is primarily the gamer, while I have a business. I’d like for photoshop to not dilly dally when I flatten my images, or render effects.

As I do not keep up with what’s current in the PC world (we do tons of research before we buy the parts), I’d like a little help on what’s new.

The closer to 1k the better. I can also salvage my Power Supply (it’s WAY more than enough), and hopefully our ram (I think together is like 10g of DDR3). maybe more. I forget what he has. I have 8.

I use every single one of my USB ports, so the more ports, and a system that can handle it, the better. (occassionally I get a blue screen and a computer tech could only determine that I use too many USB’s at one time. My tablet, two external hard drives (to dump my photo sessions and movies on), my printer, my keyboard, my gaming mouse (I game too), my headset, my webcam, and sometimes my phone (but I can’t always have it plugged in, no room).

My husband plays many MMO’s, and I would like to not have to upgrade this computer in a few years for him to keep up.

We also plan to use my medium tower, but if a bigger tower is needed to fit what we need, then we might be willing.

Thanks for any help.

since husband doesn’t play fps (first person shooting) games such as call of duty, focus on buying fast solid state drive. and cheap video card should suffice.

  1. Cuando llegara la versión oficial de Windows Phone 8.1?

  2. Well first off, Intel’s Haswell architecture has recently come off the line. For what you do, I would recommend an i5-4670k ($ 230). This should more than suffice for all gaming and picture editing needs, but if this isn’t enough then I recommend the i7-4770k ($ 340).

As for the motherboard you will need an LGA 1150 socket motherboard.
I have heard good things about the MSI Z87-G45 ($ 160): http://www.amazon.com/MSI-Motherboard-Motherboards-Z87-G45-GAMING/dp/B00D12OBEU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1379389116&sr=8-2&keywords=lga 1150. But this one has 4 USB 3.0 ports and 2 USB 2.0 ports as well as 3 PCI-e 3.0 slots.

Now for the graphics. MMO’s aren’t known for being too graphics intensive so you could probably make do with a Radeon 7870 ($ 210): http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-Mini-Displayport-PCI-Express-Graphic-GV-R787OC-2GD/dp/B007PJVB3Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1379389580&sr=8-2&keywords=7870. Or if you want something with more horsepower then you could try one of Nvidia’s 700 series, specifically the gtx 760 ($ 260): http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperClocked-Dual-Link-Graphics-02G-P4-2765-KR/dp/B00DHW4HXY/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1379389662&sr=8-4&keywords=nvidia gtx.

As for the hard drive, I personally like the Seagate Barracuda 2TB: http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Barracuda-3-5-Inch-Internal-ST2000DM001/dp/B005T3GRN2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1379389772&sr=8-3&keywords=seagate barracuda. However, if you use an SSD (solid state drive) as a boot drive for windows and applications, you can see noticeable improvements in load times. Samsung 840 120 GB ($ 100):http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronics-EVO-Series-2-5-Inch-MZ-7TE120BW/dp/B00E3W15P0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1379389862&sr=8-1&keywords=ssd

The rest pretty much doesn’t matter too much. Just make sure that your power supply can handle the new graphics and CPU. RAM and Case normally aren’t too much of a concern to me.
